Library and Information Services
A vast array of library serves is available to serve the needs of the clinical, pre-clinical staff, research workers, students and post-graduates. The primary source of veterinary medicine-related scientific material is the library of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University.
The faculty’s library occupies the top floor of the library and scientific departments building in the new building complex of the campus. It is comprised of two halls. The first contains the periodicals, books, and encyclopedias. The second hall contains the theses and dissertations approved by the Faculty since its establishment, in addition to others received from other faculties of veterinary medicine in Egypt. The library has available to the students and faculty, internet and photocopying facilities.
Overall, the faculty’s library contains about 19000 textbooks, 226 periodicals and over 2400 theses and dissertations. Further material is available at any of the four agricultural-science-related libraries on or close to Cairo University campus. The first is located in the faculty of Agriculture right next to the new building complex of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The second, the AGERI research center, is located close to the main administrative building of Cairo University. The third is the National Agricultural library close to the Veterinary Research Institute in Dokki, less than 10 minutes away from campus. The forth is the new Central Library close to the student dorms and across from the LASER Institute.
Online full text articles are also available through the Central library and the Egyptian Universities Network (EUN) close to the main administrative building of Cairo University. These services are provided for a small charge and are supported by Cairo University budget.
Computer labs are available in libraries, student dorms, as well as some departments throughout Cairo University campus. More laboratories are being built every day and even more private Internet and computer Cafés are being built around campus to facilitate the growing demand of students and staff.
